Our Madrid salsa class take place in professional and fully equipped dance studio in the heart of the city, located close to (Retiro metro). We are easily accessible by public transport (metro or bus) or for many within walking distance of your accommodation. All our artistic teachings are presented with superb humor and that is the main focal point of our sessions. One, Two, Cha Cha Cha!

There are many Latin dances. They are each from different countries and regions in Latin America. If you are a beginner then here is a small summary of the main types of dance.

Originally from the island of Cuba, Salsa is danced over 8 beats, which are split over 4 beats each. Salsa offers the dancer the ability to improvise and enjoy the freedom of its sensuality. It is generally danced to music called “Timba” and is commonly practiced in “Rueda”. We then have the Mambo which originated from New York between the 1940s and 1960s. This style mixes Afro-Cuban sounds and with influences from New York jazz.

Next, we have the chachacha which is very close to the Mambo. This style was invented in 1951 by the brilliant Cuban violinist Enrique Jorrin, from the charanga Orquesta America. It is a ternary dance which involves (3 beats). The word “chachacha” comes from the sound produced by the friction of the feet of the dancers on the floor following the rhythm.

We then have the Samba, which was born in Brazil. The Samba evokes the famous Rio carnival. It’s a 2-step dance, that is characterized by very jerky and rapid foot movements. Another South American favorite is the Rumba which is performed on 4 beats. This is the ultimate sensual dance and distinguished by the very intense and pronounced movements at the hips.

We move on to the Bachata. Originated from the Dominican Republic this dance is very intuitive and has easy and very sensual basic movements.

Finally, the Reggeaton is a dance and an urban musical genre, born from the mid-1990s. It is a sexy and very intuitive dance. It has roots in salsa, hip-hop and reggae. It will boost your confidence with its sensual and creative movements.
