The majestic tower of Belém:
The majestic tower of Belem was built between 1515 and 1521 and was originally utilised as a miltary foritification. The tower represents the most symbolic monument of Portugal. From 35 meters high, it protects the city from its stature and offers a breathtaking 360-degree view of the estuary of the Tagus River. Listed since 1983 in UNESCO World Heritage, it is one of the great makings of the Portuguese monarchy during the Renaissance. It is open from 10:00 to 17:30 from October to April and until 18:00 from May to September. The building is closed on Mondays and the price of the visit is 6€. The imposing Château Saint Georges
Built on one of the 7 hills of the city, the immense castle of Saint Georges (Castel Sao Jorge in Portuguese) impresses with its excessiveness. This is a major historical site and a must visit during your stay. This majestic fortress was the place of residence of the late Portuguese kings and the court from the 12th to the 16th century. With its extraordinary size, it offers one of the most beautiful views of the city and the Tagus. The building is open every day from 09:00 to 18:00 from November to February, and 09:00 to 21:00 from May to October. The price of the visit is 8.50€. The mythical tram line 28
Line 28 of the tramway and its yellow wagons are some of the legendary images of the city. Take a seat in these legendary trams and experience a sensational journey back in time. Aboard these century-old machines, you will travel along one of the most spectacular tourist routes in the city and discover the emblematic neighborhoods of Graça, Alfama and Chiado. The starting point of the tram 28 is very close to the Martin Moniz metro station. The fare for one trip is € 2.85.
